Dobermann Rescue Australia Wide
How we work:
Here at Dobermann Rescue we are all volunteers and work during our own spare time so please bare with us as we cannot always respond immediately. We have limited staff and at the moment there are only 2 of us working to help you and your dogs.
All dogs that come through us are rehomed for free we do not allow the resale of dogs.
If desexing or other veterinary work is required we expect either the existing owner or new owner to cover these costs.
When you have had to make the hard decision on rehoming your Dobermann, we are here for you and your dog. We do only work with purebred Dobermanns.

The reason for this is we know the breed extremely well and when a mix of other breeds are involved it changes the temperament and nature of a dog and sadly, we cannot guarantee another breed we do not understand. You have made contact with us, what we do next is send you one of our surrender forms (If you have not already completed one).
This form is to be completed as best as you can and has honestly as you can. This form can be a little confronting as you will need to sign the form which is a legal binding document to state the information you have give is correct to your knowledge.
It also means you are happy for us to help you find a forever home for you dog and you will not go ahead and advertise the said dog on Gumtree or other sale related sites and rehomed yourself once we have started working on your dog. We have had to do this as some dogs we have spent hours contacting people advertising and working on rehoming then the owner turns around to say they have rehomed the dog. It wastes our time and perspective new owners.
Once we have the form signed and returned to us, we then get to work. We talk to you on the phone we get as much information about your dog as we possibly can. We then will sit down and go through all of our previous adoption forms and see if anyone in our emails would suit your dog.
If we have no one suitable on our books we will advertise on our FB page. If we find someone of interest, we contact them. We have a chat over the phone we look into their homes via Google Earth to make sure their home is what they say it is. We make sure fencing is what they say it is and the area they live in will suit the dog we are trying to rehome. We look at references, we ask around, we did into their lives as much as possible. Most of our new homes are Dobermann people, they have raised these dogs previously.
The final decision of who the dog goes to is the existing owners, we do expect total honesty both with us and with any prospective owners that we send to you to contact. If by chance we are lucky enough to find someone in our emails we then talk to you make sure you are happy with our choice. We then send that person onto you (the owner of the dog) to chat further. If you are both happy with the outcome, we will help arrange transport or encourage you to take the dog to the new owner’s home (if possible).
This gives you a chance to see where the dog will be living and also know he/she will be safe and happy. If it is not possible for you to drop the dog off, we then look at transporting the dog to his/her new home. We are more than happy to help arrange this for you and new owner. Any expenses for transport are to be paid by existing/new owner.
Once a dog is rehomed through us, we keep those dogs on our books and check in from time to time to make sure the dog is settled in and everything is going well. Now if by chance your dog had previously bitten a person or attacked another animal. This makes it very difficult for a dog to be rehomed.
We are happy to chat with you about the reason and sometimes it’s not always the dog’s fault and we can work around these issues. Sometimes sadly we can not help at all but will also help direct you to other options, trainers or behaviourist in your area. Also, we can discuss other options you may not have thought of to keep people and your dog safe at home.

We work hard doing this job as best we can.

Any dog rehomed through us is at new owners discretion, sadly not all owners are honest. We have in the past seen some behavioural issues arise that have not been seen previously. We are always here for training ideas, help in finding decent vets in your area. Help with basic requirements to help settle your dog into his or her new home.

If you are taking a new dog home, we have a few easy steps to help your dog settle. So please always speak to us know matter how experienced you are in the breed. If you have never taken home a rescue before this is an important chat we need to have.
